A drive to expand the use of digital technology in social care could lead to more than £125 million worth of benefits, NHS Digital has said.
The aim is to reduce hospital admissions and GP visits and improve resident’s quality of life. The initial programme started in 2016 with an investment of £23 million, aimed at harnessing the power of information and technology to help the sector care for people more effectively and efficiently.
Previous initiatives have included monitors which send health data to GP’s, using artificial intelligence to predict their care needs. Groups also worked collaboratively using digital technology to showcase new ideas and solutions to other homes.
Simon Hayler of GHM Care says: “It’s great new that already the projects being funded are making such a difference. There are so many opportunities in the sector to improve resident care through the rollout of new technologies. We have assisted many care homes and groups maximise their investments from the funding and look forward to discussing the options available to others.”
